Dr. Robert Deluty's Poetry Reading

Congratulations to Dr. Robert Deluty, the Associate Dean of the Graduate School, on publishing his 50th book, "On the Tightrope," in the field of poetry!

On February 10, 2016, a small celebration was held in The Graduate School, where members of The Graduate School had the opportunity to sit back and listen, while Dr. Deluty eloquently read poems that he has written. Some poems that were shared were written as senryus, a form of poetry that is similar to haikus, but covers different content.

Below is one of poems that Dr. Deluty shared (permission was granted by Dr. Deluty to post his poem). It is a wonderful poem that captures the topic of career-life balance:

Juggler

Mother, spouse, wage earner -
Roles, like juggled balls, that
Form fluid intersecting arcs.
Distance, balance, emphasis
Are relentlessly adjusted so that
None is over- or under-stressed.
Roles that must be humble,
Each willing and able
To relinquish apogee
To maintain equilibrium.
